"From this point the Rio Uruguay presented to our view a noble volume of water. From the clearness and rapidity of the stream, its appearance was far superior to that of its neighbour the Parana. On the opposite coast, several branches from the latter river entered the Uruguay. As the sun was shining, the two colours of the waters could be seen quite distinct."

"Contemplado desde aquel punto, el río Uruguay presentaba a nuestra vista una imponente masa de agua. Por la limpidez y rapidez de su corriente, su aspecto era muy superior al de su vecino el Paraná. En la costa opuesta varios ramales de este último río penetraban en el Uruguay. Como brillaba un sol espléndido, podían verse con perfecta distinción los dos colores de las aguas."
